Phase 1

ONLINE LECTURES with Ellie Herman

Learn the mechanics, technique, and integration of the Pilates Method with one of the world’s foremost Pilates innovators, Master Teacher Ellie Herman. Ellie is committed to teaching students the applications of all the Pilates exercises so that when they graduate, they are confident they can apply their knowledge to all populations.

Ellie believes that Pilates education begins with an understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, posture, and biomechanics. Throughout this immersive and rigorous series of lectures and workshops, you will learn choreography of the Pilates mat and apparatus, how to guide clients through cueing, and common contraindications.

Students can choose to get certified in just one piece of equipment or do the comprehensive training.

Students seeking comprehensive certification are required to complete all the lectures for all the equipment, complete practical hours and finally, Zoom or in-person test-out.

 

 

Phase 2

PRACTICAL HOURS - Self-Practice & Teaching

Each module requires Self-Practice and Student teaching.

Students will need access to equipment if they want to get certified so they can practice themselves and also practice teaching others.

Self Practice: Students are required to complete self-practice sessions to reinforce program curriculum and perfect their technique.

Student Teaching: A critically important aspect of the program is learning how to be a safe, effective, inspiring teacher.

Functional Anatomy

Pilates Mat

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Pilates Mat Manual available on our website.

  • Mat certification requirements: 20 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

Pilates Springboard

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Springboard Manual, available on our website.

  • Springboard certification requirements: 10 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

Reformer 

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Reformer Manual, available on our website.

  • Reformer certification requirements: 20 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

Cadillac

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Cadillac Manual, and Pilates Arc & Barrels available on our website.

  • Springboard certification requirements: 10 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

Pilates Arc

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Cadillac Manual, and Pilates Arc & Barrels available on our website.

  • Springboard certification requirements: 5 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

Ladder Barrel

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Cadillac Manual, and Pilates Arc & Barrels available on our website.

  • Ladder Barrel certification requirements: 2 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

Wunda Chair

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman’s Wunda Chair Manual, available on our website.

  • Chair certification requirements: 10 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Test out Fee $150: Schedule a Zoom or in-person test out!

You will receive a certificate of completion via email.

Ellie Herman Method (evolved Barre)

  • Online lecture/demonstration with Ellie Herman.

  • EHM Certification requirements: 10 hours each of self-practice and student teaching.

  • Required Books: Ellie Herman Method pdf available on our website.

  • Students must take a minimum of 10 Brooklyn Barre classes, virtually or live. Students will receive a 50% discount on a 10-pack of classes ( comes out to $96.50 for 10 virtual classes).

  • Test Out Fee $100: Submit a videotape of a 45-minute Brooklyn Barre class

Comprehensive Certification

Please read all the requirements for each module. There is an additional written test for comprehensive certification. The practical test out for comprehensive is $500. The comprehensive test-out covers all the equipment. A Zoom test out can be scheduled when student is ready.

 

 

Phase 3

TEST OUT

How to Test out. 

- Before scheduling test-out you must have completed all your teaching and practice hours. 

  • Do not test out until you are off-book and confident to teach the exercises required.

  • You must know all equipment set-up and be proficient in teaching.

  • If you fail you must pay the fee again and reschedule.

  • You can test out by module or if you are doing the comprehensive you can test-out for all the modules at once. Some people do module test out even when they are doing the comprehensive so they can focus on each piece of equipment, but it does cost more.

  • Test-outs can be done via Zoom or at the Narberth Studio (recommended for anyone living locally).

  • You will receive a PDF of your certificate after you pass your Test!

Comprehensive Test-out $500: 3 parts; 2.5 hours practical test out, written exam and case study. Purchase here

Roll Downs with Arm Springs: round back variations: slow motion, with oblique arm pulls, with bicep curls, flat back with Bicep Curl.

Bridging with Roll back bar(facing Springboard) or Arm Springs (facing away)

Thigh Stretch into Kneeling Cat with Roll Back Bar

A squatting/lunging combo facing the Springboard with Roll back bar or Arm Springs

Arm Springs facing Away: Flying Lunges, Push-up variations, Pec Stretch, Reverse Bicep Curls

Side Lunging Series with one Arm Spring (2-5 variations)

Leg Spring Series: single and double leg variations

Reformer: 

Be prepared to teach a 45 minute workout to someone.

Must include:

Footwork series

Supine Series: Hundred, Short Spine, Coordination, Rollover

Plank Series: Plank, Around the World, Elephant Flat Back, Arabesque

2. Written Exam- please schedule 1.5 hours to complete the written Exam at Thrive or Narberth studio. The written test covers Pilates repertoire, anatomy, and kinesiology. The practical test assesses the students’ ability to teach and perform the repertoire. Group practicals are scheduled throughout the year.

3. Case Study- Please write out a one page case study of your clients, detailing their postural issues and injuries  and a 1-hour program using all pieces of equipment, stating why you are choosing those exercises.
